Ledger Live Feature Focus: Real time balances and multicurrencies

Ledger Live is the new way to manage your Ledger device and all of your crypto assets in one place.
This powerful yet simple-to-use application replaces the old Chrome-based apps, including Ledger Manager and numerous currency apps.
Ledger Live also adds a range of new features that make it easier to own, monitor and transact cryptocurrencies.
In the first of two blogs, we are taking an in-depth look at some new features:
 
Multicurrency

Ledger Live supports all of today’s major cryptocurrencies and we will continue to add new ones regularly.
We have worked hard to create the best possible user experience, whether you’re new to Ledger, or have been using our products for some time.
That includes a faster, more straightforward process for setting-up new cryptocurrency accounts and for importing existing Ledger accounts.
 
Creating new accounts   
Creating a new crypto account is as simple as clicking the ‘+’ button from the Ledger Live dashboard and giving it a name.
You also have the option to create multiple accounts for each currency, should you wish to split your holdings (e.g. “Retirement bitcoin fund” and “New car bitcoin fund”).
The name of an account can easily be changed by opening that account and clicking the wrench icon at the top right hand side.
 
Importing existing accounts
If you have previously set up currency wallets on your Ledger device using Chrome apps, transferring them to Ledger Live could not be easier.
During the initial Ledger Live setup process, you will be prompted to ‘add accounts’.
Select the cryptocurrency type from a drop-down menu, then open the relevant app on your Ledger device.
Details of your holdings will then be imported into Ledger Live.
You also have the option to import an existing account at any time by clicking the ‘+’ button next to ‘Accounts’ on the left hand side menu.
 
Managing crypto apps on your ledger device
To store any secure keys on your Ledger wallet, you must first install the relevant crypto app onto the device.
This can be done from the ‘Manager’ screen in Ledger Live. To enable a new crypto asset on Ledger your device, simply click ‘install’ next to the app.
It is also possible to delete apps from your Ledger device by clicking the trash can icon.

Check your investments
Whether you are a short-term investor or plan to Hodl, you will likely want to keep an eye on the value of your assets. Ledger Live’s real time balance provides constantly updated prices for each cryptocurrency.
Details of your combined holdings as well as a chart showing their value over time is displayed at the top of the ‘Portfolio’ screen. Account values are visible at all times on the left hand side menu.
Users can also view a chart for each individual cryptocurrency by selecting the relevant account from their portfolio.
Every rate chart can be switched between the past week, month or year. In each case, Ledger Live shows the value in a fiat currency of your choice, as well as percentage and value change over time.
Clicking different points on a Ledger Live rate chart shows the historic value of your holdings.
 
Fiat currency rates
Ledger Live allows users to choose from a wide range of rate providers (18 at launch) and fiat currencies (23 at launch).
To change your provider or fiat currency, click the ‘settings’ icon and set your preference using the ‘Countervalue’ and ‘Rate provider’ menus.
The same rate provider and currency settings are used when sending or receiving money using Ledger Live’s transaction tools.
