What is Ubiq
Ubiq is an open-source fork of the Ethereum codebase with a suite of wallets. Pyrus, the web-based, client-side browser of Ubiq is compatible with Ledger devices and is a non-custodial interface for exchanging or transferring Ubiq and any ERC-20 compatible tokens.
Users can send online and offline transactions without exposing their private keys to the Internet. Ledger is also integrated with Sparrow, Ubiq’s browser extension for payment, dapp, and identity management.

Why do you need a hardware wallet?
When you own cryptocurrencies, what you really own is a “private key”, a critical piece of information used to authorize outgoing transactions on the blockchain network. Whoever has the knowledge of this key can spend the associated funds. Hence the famous expression “not your (private) keys, not your bitcoins”. Owning your private keys gives you much more power and control.
