Ledger Nano S: Firmware Version 1.6.1 Now Available!
Following suit with the Ledger Nano X, a new Ledger Nano S firmware version is now available! We have included some new additions in preparation of support for a few exciting new features.
One for the Future
The Ledger Nano S firmware update to version 1.6.1 is a somewhat smaller one, mostly focused on additions for exciting upcoming features. For example, the BLS12-381 G1 cryptographic curve has been added.
There will also be less of a delay when installing and uninstalling apps from your Ledger Nano S after this update.
Another important part of the firmware update is the size the new firmware would actually take up. We’ve made sure to limit the size increase to only 4kb!
Proceeding with the Update
This specific firmware update will only be available for users who’ve updated their Ledger Nano S’ firmware version to at least 1.5.5. Should you be running a lower firmware version, you can first proceed to 1.6.0. After this, you can continue to get firmware version 1.6.1.
One huge UX enhancement is that you’ll no longer need to unplug and replug your device in order to proceed with the firmware update. At Ledger, we deeply care about user-experience and wanted to provide you with a smooth and easy update process. With this enhancement, your firmware updates will become a more seamless experience, where you’ll only need to click once and let the update run its course. This enhanced update flow will be available to you if you are using Ledger Live version 2.8.0+ and are already running firmware version 1.6.0. From here on, this will be the standard for any future firmware updates.
Even though the Ledger Nano X has been available for over a year, we are committed to continuing to support and improve the Ledger Nano S. This firmware update is but one step in our commitment – and we look forward to providing more enhancements to the best-selling hardware wallet on the market.
