Your Ledger Device and the Upcoming Windows 10 Update
The next version of Windows 10 was released to testers on April 18th. We’ve been assessing the changes this update brings and wanted to inform Ledger users what it means for them.
Windows 10 May edition (aka Windows 1903) will become available in the upcoming weeks, and it changes some interactions with the Ledger Nano X and S. This is what you need to know.
Ledger live
Ledger live is fully ready for the upcoming Windows 10 version.
If you use your Ledger Nano X or S only with Ledger Live, you can disregard this message.
Web Wallets
If you use your Nano X or S with a 3rd party app or website (examples: myetherwallet.com, tronscan.org, yoroiwallet, metamask, etc…), and you install the new Windows 10 version, you must have the latest version of firmware and apps.
Once updated, your Nano (X or S) will work as expected, but Windows might display a pop-up that will automatically disappear as you interact with your Nano. Please note that interacting with this window will abort the operation and might require you to reconnect your Nano device.

What you have to do
If you have a Nano S
Your Firmware version must be 1.5.5 or later for Nano S. To check this, you can follow this path on your Nano S: Settings > Device > Firmware.
If you need to update the firmware, you can follow the update process detailed here.
Your cryptocurrency apps must also be up to date – this can be done by uninstalling & reinstalling them.
If you do not have the latest Firmware version and apps, you will not be able to access the web wallets.
If you have a Ledger Nano X
You’re automatically up to date. See here to understand how to deal with the new pop-up window.
If you have a Ledger Blue
You should either use Ledger Live or not update your windows version.
If you don’t want to update your Windows Version or your Ledger Nano S
Many Windows editions allow you to postpone the Windows upgrade by up to a year (example: https://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-update-act-fast-to-delay-this-big-upgrade/).
This feature is provided by Microsoft (see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026834/windows-10-defer-feature-updates)
If you don’t update your Windows 10 version to the next one, you don’t have to update your Ledger Nano S. It will still work as expected.
